The Rt Hon. the Lord Woolf of Barnes CH

The Rt Hon. the Lord Woolf of Barnes CH is an iQ Council Overseer. He is the former Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, and the serving President of the Civil and Commercial Court of the Qatar Financial Centre. He is also a member of the Privy Council of the United Kingdom, an accredited mediator, and a fellow and chartered arbitrator of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Lord Woolf was appointed to the Queen’s Bench of the High Court of England and Wales in 1979, thereafter becoming a Lord Justice of Appeal in 1986, and a Lord of Appeal in Ordinary in 1992. Between 1996 and 2000 he held the position of Master of the Rolls, and in 2000 was appointed Lord Chief Justice of England and Wales, a position from which he retired in September 2005. He continues to be a part-time judge of the Appellate Committee of the House of Lords of the United Kingdom, and a member of the House of Lords Constitution Committee. Since 2003, he has served as non-permanent judge of the Court of Final Appeal of Hong Kong. Along with Sir William Blair, Lord Woolf served as Co-Convener of the inaugural Qatar Law Forum of Global Leaders in Law in May 2009.

Lord Woolf received his legal education at University College London, and holds honorary degrees from twelve universities including the University of London, Oxford University, and Cambridge University.
