Sheikh Ahmed Zaki Yamani (1930-2021)

Sheikh Ahmed Zaki Yamani was an iQ Council Overseer. He was a distinguished former Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources of Saudi Arabia, who served as one of the most influential figures within the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). During his tenure in government, he oversaw numerous reforms in commercial law, corporate law, and anti-corruption law, and established the General Petroleum and Mineral Organisation (Petromin) as Saudi Arabia’s national oil company. He was also primarily responsible for the establishment of the College of Petroleum and Mineral Resources (now the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals) in Dharan.

In his post-government career, Sheikh Yamani established the Center for Global Energy Studies, a non-profit organisation committed to the study of the energy sector, and Al Furqan Islamic Heritage Foundation Al Furqan, an institution focused on various aspects of Islamic heritage, such as law, mathematics, music, philosophy, literature, and science.

Sheikh Yamani received his Islamic legal education at the Grand Mosque of Mecca, and his civil, and common law education at Cairo University, New York University, and Harvard University.
