The Right Honourable Dr Kirsty Duncan (1966-2026)

The Honourable Kirsty Duncan was Deputy Leader of the Canadian Parliament and had been a Member of Parliament for Etobicoke North between 2008 and 2025. She previously served as Canadian Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities. Kirsty was internationally recognized as a leading expert in pandemic influenza, climate change and its impact on human health. She served on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, an organization that was jointly awarded the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with Al Gore. Prior to entering politics, Kirsty was an associate professor of health studies at the University of Toronto Scarborough, and an associate professor of geography at the University of Windsor. She held a doctorate in geography from the University of Edinburgh.
