HRH Prince El Hassan bin Talal

His Royal Highness Prince El Hassan bin Talal is an iQ Council Overseer. He is a globally recognised figure in international and regional policy affairs, and served as Crown Prince of Jordan from 1965 until 1999.

Prince Hassan’s previous appointments include Chairman of the Policy Advisory Commission for the World Intellectual Property Organisation, the International Interreligious Advisory Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (U.N.E.S.C.O.), and an honorary member of the U.N.E.S.C.O. World Commission on Culture and Development. He was also a Member of the Informal Advisory Group to the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees, and a Member of the Executive Committee and Trustee of the International Crisis Group.

In June 2003, he was appointed by the U.N. Secretary General as one of five regional experts in the Independent Eminent Experts group to implement the Declaration and Programme of Action of the World Conference against Racism in Durban, South Africa, in 2001. In July 2003, he launched jointly Partners in Humanity to improve understanding between the Muslim World and the West. In Jordan, he also established the Royal Scientific Society, the Arab Thought Forum, the Higher Council for Science and Technology, and the Royal Institute for Inter-Faith Studies.

Prince Hassan received his B.A. in Oriental Studies from the University of Oxford. He has since been awarded honorary degrees from over twenty prestigious international universities, in addition to receiving numerous awards for his work in promoting peace and justice:

  • Globally recognised figure in international, and regional policy affairs, Crown Prince of Jordan from 1965 until 1999;
  • Previous appointments include Chairman of the Policy Advisory Commission for the World Intellectual Property Organisation, the International Interreligious Advisory Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (U.N.E.S.C.O.), and an honorary member of the U.N.E.S.C.O.
